Davon Yonkers, Director of Bands
Mr. Davon Yonkers received his Bachelor’s in Music in Public School Music in May of 2001 and a Master’s of Music in Music Education in May of 2008, both from Norfolk State University where he participated with the Marching Spartan “Legion” Band.  While at Norfolk State, he also participated with the University Jazz Ensemble, the NSU Pep Band, The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the University Players and the NSU Gospel Choir.

Upon his undergraduate commencement, Mr. Yonkers began his first teaching assignment in Halifax County Public Schools in Halifax County North Carolina.  In the summer of 2005, he accepted the position as Director of Bands at Highland Springs High School where he is currently employed.

Some of Mr. Yonkers professional affiliations include the Virginia Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, Inc.(Life Member).


Danielle Yonkers, Assistant Director of Bands
Mrs. Danielle Yonkers received her Bachelor’s of Music and a Master’s of Music in Music Education, both from Norfolk State University where she participated with the Marching Spartan “Legion” Band, the NSU Pep Band, and The Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

Mrs. Yonkers began teaching in Halifax County Public Schools in Halifax County, North Carolina.  In the summer of 2005, she accepted the position as Assistant Director of Bands at Highland Springs High School where she is currently employed.  She also currently serves as the the Director of Bands at Holman Middle School.

A few of Mrs. Yonkers professional affiliations include the Virginia Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.


Kimberly Storrs, Assistant Director of Bands
Mrs. Kimberly Storrs, a native of South Bend, Indiana, is in her 6th year as the Director of Bands at Fairfield Middle School in Richmond, VA.  Her responsibilities include directing the Beginning Band, two Concert Bands, Jazz Band, and Pep Band.  Mrs. Storrs also currently serves as Unified Arts Department Chair at Fairfield.  Prior to arriving at Fairfield Middle, Mrs. Storrs was the Director of Bands at John Marshall High School, chorus at Binford and Chandler Middle Schools, and various elementary schools in the Richmond Public Schools System.  Her schools have received many awards and accolades during her tenure, including performing with country singer, Reba McIntire in 1999 at the Landmark Theatre.  She has also performed with many ensembles in the Richmond area.

In 1988, Mrs. Storrs attended Indiana University Marching Hundred as one of 29 outstanding trumpet players.   Years later, she transferred to Virginia Union University as a top music education major on full scholarship, and studied trumpet with John Scott.  While at Union, she performed with the jazz bands, pep bands, and the Marching Panthers under the direction of Gregory McCallum.  She became a member of Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Band Sorority, while attending there.  After graduating from VUU in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Mrs. Storrs joined the faculty at VUU as an adjunct brass instructor and private trumpet teacher. 

Mrs. Storrs has been happily married to Jonathan Storrs, a native of Richmond, Virginia, for 15 years and has one daughter, Robbyn in college, and two sons, Jonathan Jr. (13) and Ellis (9).


Dante Chambers, Percussion Instructor
Mr. Dante Chambers serves as the Marching “Battalion” percussion instructor.  He attended Norfolk State University from the fall of 2002 and is currently finishing his degree at Virginia Commonwealth University.  While at Norfolk State University, he served as the principal percussionist for three years and assistant section leader of the Marching Spartan “Legion” Band in 2004.  He also served as the head student arranger of music.  His passion for percussion has drawn him back to his Alma Mater, Highland Springs High.  Under his direction, he lead the percussion section to over 10 first place trophies in just a little over one year.

Mr. Chambers’ professional affiliations include Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, Inc. and the Music Educator’s National Conference.  He also serves as a freelance Disk Jockey and private lessons instructor.
